ICT

Lockers Park has a modern, air conditioned ICT suite where 17 pupils can work at individual terminals. There are a further 9 networked terminals in the library. In addition to this, the school has Promethean interactive whiteboards and laptops in the majority of classrooms for whole class learning and teaching.

Boys and staff have their own user accounts for access to the shared resources on the network and to the Internet. Internet access is filtered and monitored using Websense. Everybody signs an ICT acceptable use policy and has their own email address.

A network technician is employed to work alongside the Head of IT and key members of staff. All parties work to ensure that ICT facilities are current and running smoothly.

In dedicated ICT lessons each week, pupils are taught a variety of skills using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and PowerPoint. They experience using digital cameras, camcorders and floor robots. In the junior years, pupils also use BlackCat SuperTools programs Information Workshop, Fresco and Logo. In the upper years, they are introduced to Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Illustrator.

The ICT teaching units are tailored to meet the needs of Lockers Park pupils so that lessons are enjoyable, purposeful and challenging. ICT is imbedded in the curriculum and it is used widely across a range of subjects as well as by pupils during free time.

At Lockers Park ICT is used for administration, assessment and planning as well as for learning and teaching. A management information system called WCBS Pass is used to combine administration, academic and financial information. It is a secure system used at a variety of levels. It enables teachers to produce detailed school reports and pupil assessments for parents and future schools.

Parents are contacted regularly via electronic means. They receive a weekly diary, menu and weather report as well as getting the school newsletter sent to them by email. A mobile phone service is used to message parents with instant notifications.

Available school policies related to ICT include the Lockers Park ICT Policy, Internet Acceptable Use, ESafety & Cyberbullying. All of these are updated regularly.
