Learning Enrichment

At Lockers, we have the following learning aims:

  • create an environment that meets the learning enrichment needs of each child;
  • ensure that the learning enrichment needs of children are identified, assessed and provided for;
  • make clear the expectations of all partners in the process;
  • identify the roles and responsibilities of staff in providing for children’s learning enrichment;
  • enable all children to have full access to all elements of the school curriculum;
  • ensure that parents are able to play their part in supporting their child’s education; and
  • ensure that our children have a voice in this process.

Educational Inclusion

Expectations are high for all our boys and we ensure that we offer excellence and choice to them, whatever their ability or needs. This is achieved through the removal of barriers to learning and participation.

We want all our children to feel that they are a valued part of our school community. Through appropriate curricular provision, we respect the fact that children…

  • have different educational and behavioural needs and aspirations;
  • require different strategies for learning;
  • acquire, assimilate and communicate information at different rates; and
  • need a range of different teaching approaches and experiences (differentiation).

Teachers and other support staff respond to children’s needs using the following strategies:

  • providing support for children who need help with communication, language and literacy;
  • planning to develop children’s understanding through the use of all their senses and of varied experiences;
  • planning for children’s full participation in learning, and in physical and practical activities;
  • helping children to manage their behaviour and to take part in learning effectively and safely; and
  • helping individuals to manage their emotions, particularly trauma or stress, and to take part in learning.

When the boys join us they will have been in early education and, in most cases, their education needs will have already been assessed. All the boys are also assessed when they enter our school, so that we can build upon their prior learning. We use this information to provide starting points for the development of an appropriate curriculum for all our children.

If our assessments show that a child may have a Learning Difficulty and Disability, we use a range of strategies that make full use of all available classroom and school resources as well as our new dedicated Learning Enrichment Area (opened in September 2011).

Parent Testmonials

"Since my son moved to Lockers Park he has attended 2 sessions of LE per week. The difference in his reading has been astounding. The best decision we ever made was to move to Lockers Park."  September 2011

"You supported my elder son for English for a couple of terms.  He has subsequently gone on to Harrow and achieved an A grade at GCSE in the supject and will be in the lower sixth form this Autumn.  Your astute assessment of him and his ability has been crucial to his success and we were delighted with the progress he made with you."  September 2011

"Our son's form teacher suggested that he have learning enrichment lessons in Year 3.  He had two terms with you and, within that period, his ability and confidence flourished.  We are very pleased with his progress."  September 2011
