Religious Education

In this subject we aim to glimpse, through correct and careful study of Bible stories, something of the transcendent and eternal nature of God. We try to instill a degree and sense of reverence while allowing, and indeed encouraging, an objective examination of the texts. Lessons should inform but not indoctrinate. The stories inevitably become part of classroom study, and factual knowledge needs to be continually monitored and eventually assessed under exam conditions (at Common Entrance or Scholarship level) but access to them should be enhanced rather than diminished by this process. Their significance, and moral value, is for the whole of life.

We are also extremely lucky at Lockers to have a dedicated Chapel where we meet as a school four times a week to begin our day. All boys participate in the short service through a reading, prayers and a hymn. Readings are non-denominational and try to provide a broad but sound moral framework for everyone to share.
